It's not difficult to understand the popularity of the Cape Cod style home. They are simple, affordable, and traditional. Most often they are symmetrical and true to their colonial roots, but after WWII, they were especially apt to be modernized with attached garages, breezeways, and minimized trim. The typical plan comprised living, dining, and kitchen on the main floor with two to three bedrooms and a bath on the second. It's not uncommon to see plans designed with an unfinished second floor ... very appealing to a young family on a budget.
