In some ways, tri-level style homes offered advantages not found in ordinary two-story homes. By arranging functional areas in different regions, like systems and laundry in the basement and bedrooms on the upper floor, tri-levels were considered to be more modern and flexible. Instead of climbing a full flight of stairs, occupants had only to contend with as set of six or seven stairs. This plan shares design characteristics with the ranch and garrison styles.
