In 1950, the average home was about 1000 sf and had just two bathrooms and one bedroom. Nine out of ten homes were single story, but not necessarily ranch style. Plan 1139 is the harbinger of what would become the standard size and layout by 1960, though it still lacks the second bathroom off the master bedroom. Nevertheless, its clean lines, light, and modern aesthetic found a new audience in post-WWII homebuyers ... especially in the Pacific Northwest.
