Immediately after WWII, the government instituted the G. I. Bill which made it possible for millions of veterans to buy a home of their own. Many were young and just getting started, so small houses like this one with its 755 sq. ft. probably seemed palatial. For the wives, many of whom worked in war industries and shared cramped apartments with other young women, this must have looked like the end of the rainbow.
