Naugahyde was commonly owned and appreciated for its rugged performance. It was essentially a durable plastic leather that one could wash with a garden hose and would stand up to the most brutal wear. Thought to be impervious to even a herd of children, it withstood most perils ... being systematically punched with a fountain pen notwithstanding.
